My role at Oak Grove has helped expand my knowledge and advocacy skills around mental illness.

Customized Care to Meet Individualized Needs of ClientsStaff serve 18 male clients at Oak Grove, and each client has his own customized care and living plan. As a Housing Support Staff at Oak Grove, I assist clients with maintaining their apartments, running errands, and administering medication. I spend time socializing with clients, and documenting behavior in Health Progress notes.

Serving Minneapolis, St. Paul and the entire state of Minnesota HOMELine provides free and low-cost legal advising services to low-income tenants across the Twin Cities and the state of Minnesota via a twenty-four hour hotline service in English, Spanish and Somali. HOMELine also provides organization, education and advocacy services to help assist tenants working independently to solve their own rental housing problems

HOMELine's MissionThe organization works to improve the public and private policies that impact rental housing through not only engaging with affected tenants, but also through organizing and advocating for more fair rental policies and legislation with local and state government officials, policy makers and other community organizations.

Creating a Displacement Mapping ProjectAs a public policy intern, my main venture was the tenant displacement-mapping project. The pilot research endeavor involved utilizing HOMELine’s database to search for trends of various forms of discrimination, such as landlords denying tenants based on them being a Section 8 voucher holder, as well as looking for patterns of rent increases and larger scale evictions.
